411MANIA | Road Dogg responds to criticism that Bret Hart wasn’t a great wrestler

Road Dogg received quite a bit of flak after recently saying he doesn’t think Bret Hart is a great wrestler, and he recently shared a video responding to the blowback. Road Dogg said on a recent episode of his Oh…You Didn’t Know podcast that I don’t think Bret Hart is a great wrestler. I think I was a better sportscaster than Bret. That’s where the money is. The comment made the rounds on social media and Road Dogg was called out for it, so he posted a video on YouTube where he addressed the criticism and his comments. You can see some highlights below:

On people saying he was just trolling people: “You know, I didn’t want to stir it. And it is the truth. People say, “He’s just trolling, he’s just trolling.” No, Glenn Gilbertti, the Disco Inferno trolls. Like, I saw his Twitter account, he’s trolling. These are my legitimate feelings which I thought I expressed as honestly as possible. but it’s about that it can come out on election day, because like that go-around with the midterms, everybody’s going crazy. And I feel like it bled into Wrestling Twitter as well.

On his statement that he didn’t think Hart was a great wrestler: “It’s fair to say [that he said that]. That’s how I feel today, even though everyone is really mad at me on Twitter. I still feel the same, but like I said, that’s just my opinion. Like, it’s not supposed to take anyone’s business… I didn’t want to take anyone’s livelihood away from them, or hurt their feelings or offend anyone. But look, it’s the it’s the – hyperbole is the verbiage of the day. And everything is better or worse, and and today I’m the worst and so I’m sorry. I’m sorry for sharing an opinion on a platform given to me to share my opinion.

On his statement that he was a better sports artist than Hart: “I just think as an artist, if you asked me to go out there and entertain a crowd, I would have other ways to do it than wrestle and wrestle. That’s what I meant by that. And I maintain that right now. And if you don’t agree with that, then cool, we can have a chat. I don’t think that’s a valid argument because nobody wins or loses, but that’s just my opinion. And I’m sorry that my opinion caused me to trend on Twitter, but the only thing I can say is, thanks for listening because you must have listened to the entire thing – what the hell is this? was, hour and 45 minutes of every word I said to make sure you understood my message. Surely you listened to it before commenting on Twitter. Oh, you didn’t and I should stop calling you Shirley? I understood.”

On his difference in wrestling philosophy with Hart: “I think I said that too, and I’m not sure, but Steve Kaufman said, ‘You and he just see wrestling differently. And it was like, ‘Holy mackerel, it’s so simple but it was so deep for me, deep for me. ‘Cause I thought, ‘Man, this is it.’ Bret and I have totally opposite philosophies on wrestling. I like gaga, I like sports entertainment. I don’t really like the ground game. And I don’t think I’m in the minority when I say that. Listen, I also said that Bret was the most overwhelmed guy, the first one I ever saw. And damn mackerel, it blew my mind that a wrestler could be that over.

On reacting to his comments: “I said a lot of things on this podcast that I feel like if people gave their time to it – and look, I don’t give you clickbait, don’t click, I don’t give bullshit. If you’re interested, taking the time to comment on social media about how stupid I am, well that’s cool. I’m pretty stupid, I’ll be honest with you. I did a lot of drugs and was often hit on the head with chairs. I don’t have very good common sense. However, I’ve been doing this for a minute and I think I can share my opinion. But if not, let me know. But you took the time to comment on Twitter. Listen to him. Give the one he mentioned a second ago, go back to the archives and check out the Montreal Screwjob episode, and listen to it. Look, you’re gonna disagree with a lot of things I say. But you will surely understand and recognize that I say this with respect and from an honest place. if you don’t, you’re the bad guy in this situation, not me. I just shared my opinion. If you don’t agree with that, I have two words for you, go ahead.
