Prince Harry’s memoir, an object of obsessive anticipation around the world since it was first announced last year, will be released on January 10, 2023.
The book will be called Spare and is presented by its publisher Penguin Random House as a tale told with “raw, unflinching honesty” and filled with “insight, revelation, self-examination and hard-won wisdom about love’s eternal power over sorrow”.
The title of the memoir is an apparent reference to Prince Harry being a royal “reserve”, not the first in the line of succession. William, Prince of Wales, is next.
The 416-page book will be published in 16 languages around the world. It is published in Canada by Random House Canada. Prince Harry will also narrate the audiobook, which will be released the same day.
Financial terms were not disclosed, but Harry will use proceeds from Spare donate to UK charities. He has already donated US$1.5 million (C$2.04 million) to Sentebale, an organization he co-founded with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho to help children and young people in Lesotho and Botswana affected by HIV/AIDS.
The book was originally due to be published in 2022. The book’s delay led to rumors that Harry was reluctant to say too much about his family, or perhaps revise the narrative after the death of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. , in September. He spoke of being estranged from his brother, William, although the siblings and their wives appeared in public together during the period of mourning following the Queen’s death.
“Penguin Random House is honored to publish the candid and emotionally powerful story of Prince Harry for readers around the world,” Penguin Random House Global CEO Markus Dohle said in a statement. “He shares a remarkably moving personal journey, from trauma to healing, that speaks to the power of love and will inspire and encourage millions around the world.”
