the Lord of the Rings Star Elijah Wood returns to New Zealand to shoot new film Bookworm.
According Varietythe star landed the lead role in the film, which is set to be directed by The ABCs of DeathAt Ant Timpson.
Wood, who is best known for his role as Frodo Baggins in the the Lord of the Rings trilogy, is set to play Strawn Wise, an American magician who will care for his 12-year-old daughter, Mildred, after her mother is hospitalized.

In a failed attempt to bond with his bookish daughter, Wood’s Strawn takes her camping in the New Zealand wilderness. On the camping trip, the father-daughter duo decide to test their family bond on a mission to find a mythical beast called the Canterbury Panther.
Although very knowledgeable in camping theory from her reading, Mildred has never been in the great outdoors, and this, combined with her father’s lack of knowledge, lends itself to many disasters.
Currently in pre-production phase, Bookworm will see director Timpson reunite with screenwriter Toby Harvard – the pair have previously collaborated on come see daddy and The salamander lives twice.

Opening up about the collaboration, Timpson said: “Toby and I are always obsessed with fathers and their weaknesses, especially the traits we’re afraid we have or display.
Speaking about its cinematic influences, Timpson said the film was inspired by 1970s breakout films.
“Bookworm will be a love letter to the ’70s escapist cinema we grew up with, an uncompromising cinema where adults and kids alike enjoyed all the on-screen shenanigans alike.”
