the Meta Quest 2 (formerly the Oculus Quest 2) topped our list of best VR headsets for a certain time. If you’re new to the VR world, this is still the best headset to start with, due to relatively low price, untethered design (doesn’t need to connect to a gaming computer) and a wide variety of applications and games. If you’re looking to gift someone a VR headset, this is an easy choice.
Once you have the headset, what next? Well, you will need to download games. Luckily the headset often comes bundled with the hit game Beat Saber and this holiday season you can even get it for $50 off with Beat Saber and Resident Evil 4 (opens in a new tab). After experiencing these two games — which are two of the best meta quest 2 games – there are another handful of games that you should definitely try right away.
One more note: this list only contains games that can be run natively on Quest 2. It is possible to play other games that are more graphically intensive over a PC connection but for new users, but it is preferable to focus on certain games that you can play immediately.
beat the saber
beat the saber (opens in a new tab) is probably the flagship game of Meta Quest 2. You get it for free with the headset if you buy it new from the Meta store. It’s easy to see why Meta uses it to show off what VR can do – it’s fun, you can play for two minutes or two hours, and it keeps you moving. One of the selling points of VR is that you can use it to sweat it out, and while Beat Saber isn’t exactly running a marathon, it will definitely get your heart rate up. Definitely jump into this rhythm-based slasher cube before you do anything else.

Resident Evil 4 VR
If you purchased a Meta Quest 2 this holiday season, you might have been lucky enough to get this game for free. But if you haven’t, this game is still worth the price of admission. The Quest 2 version of Resident Evil 4 (opens in a new tab) is incredibly well done, even if the graphics aren’t exactly state of the art. Plus, it’s no small slice of console gaming – it’s the full Resident Evil 4 experience. That’s easily 10 hours or more of gameplay. Once you’ve played the game in VR , you won’t want to go back to a console again.

Whip Gun
It was hard to choose between this game and Superhot VR (opens in a new tab). Both are excellent VR shooters and both are definitely worth playing. But if we had to choose one, it had to be Pistol Whip (opens in a new tab). Especially since after Beat Saber you will already have some familiarity with the mechanics of Pistol Whip. This game is a rail shooter, which means it shoots you through a gauntlet of enemies as you twist and turn to shoot the bad guys and dodge their bullets, but like Beat Saber, the gameplay flow is synchronized with the excellent soundtrack. And for those who like a challenge, the hardest difficulty is definitely hard.

Moss: Book II
You should probably play Moss (opens in a new tab) before playing its sequel, especially since it will only take a few hours of your time. Still, if you can’t, the sequel is worth playing on its own. Moss: Book II (opens in a new tab) won our 2022 VR Game of the Year and is a great sequel to the original game. Plus, you get new enemies, improved combat mechanics with new weapons, and improved level design. In short, if you’re okay skipping the prequel, the sequel is worth it for the enhanced experience. Plus, it’s not like you can’t always go back once you’re done.

Marvel’s Iron Man VR
Marvel’s Iron Man VR (opens in a new tab) was released on VR for a while, but the Marvel game was limited to PlayStationVR until November 2022. Which is great, because why doesn’t he want to fly like Iron Man in VR? This first-person shooter is a blast, and letting the suit build around you as you drop through the air is exactly the kind of unreal experience VR was designed for.

Among us VR
Among us VR (opens in a new tab) is great fun. Whether you played the original on PC or mobile, the premise is pretty much the same: walk around, complete tasks, and discover the impostor among you. But the VR version of the game may be the best way to play it. The controls are well designed and the proximity chat feature is great. Since you’re in virtual reality, you actually have to talk to your teammates to communicate, and their voices change in volume depending on how far away they are from you. This game is a great way to experience virtual reality with your friends, as long as they have their own Meta Quest 2 headset. Otherwise, it’s a great excuse to make new virtual friends.

ForeVR Bowl
If you’re not in the mood to fly, defeat baddies, or sweat, Quest 2 has a few options for you. ForeVR bowl (opens in a new tab) might not be the deepest game in terms of features, but it does exactly what it advertises – lets you play virtual reality. The experience is immersive and the game physics feel realistic. If you need a way to relax and unwind, ForeVR Bowl is the perfect Quest 2 game.
