Monday News Update
Bryan and I will be back tonight for our first of many shows together on video. We’ll talk about Raw, answer questions, and review the latest news.
Raw Tonight is from Charlotte, NC at the Spectrum Center. Raw is on a two-show streak of 1.8 million viewers against the NFL. Tonight’s game is Chicago Bears vs. New England Patriots. They were lucky because they could have faced two baseball games, but Houston and the New York Yankees both won their league championships yesterday and are out until they get better. face off in the World Series. The series begins Friday night (moving Smackdown to FS 1). Game 3 of the World Series will be next week’s Raw, Game 4 against NXT next week, Game 5 against AEW next week if needed, and Game 6 if needed against 11/4 Smackdown .
Raw announced Bianca Belair vs. Bayley in a non-title match and Finn Balor vs. Karl Anderson in a match that actually means more to Japan as two guys who were the original members of Bullet Club.
Jon Moxley vs. Penta was added for the title at Dynamite on Wednesday. It’s notable because it wasn’t announced on Friday’s show, or were there any angles in that direction. Looks like Tony Khan added a title match in hopes of boosting the ratings. Penta didn’t pick up any singles wins and in the final trios title match on Wednesday, it was Fenix who got the pin, not Penta. Khan’s booking usually sets people up for title matches, so it’s a rarity with the title match with no builds coming out of nowhere. But on paper, it bolsters the show with Bryan Danielson vs. Sammy Guevara looking strong, Chris Jericho and Daniel Garcia vs. Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta seemingly building ROH and Pure title matches, Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland vs. FTR which leads to winners against The Acclaimed and Jamie Hayter against Riho, who is likely to turn into Toni Storm against Hayter.
Bellator has announced that they are working with Rizin for a joint New Year’s Eve show at the Saitama Super Arena featuring Patricio Pitbull Freire’s third encounter against AJ McKee for the featherweight title plus Kyoji Horiguchi against Juan Archuleta. There will be a press conference on Wednesday in Tokyo at Roppongi Hills Arena to announce the card and possibly more fights.
CJ Perry (Lana) will be part of The Surreal Lief which premieres tonight on VH-1 at 9 p.m. The cast also includes for this season Dennis Rodman, August Alsina, Frankie Muniz, Kim Coles, Manny MIJA, Stormy Daniels and Tamar Braxton.
Xavier Woods will appear on ABC’s Wheel of Fortune on Sunday.
Liv Morgan’s appearance on Chucky is Wednesday night at 9 p.m. on the United States. They’ll probably push that on Raw tonight.
Tickets for AEW’s return to the Kia Forum in Los Angeles will officially go on sale Friday. There will be a presale on Wednesday or Thursday. They sold out immediately last time, but I don’t think anyone expects that this time around.
Tomorrow’s Vice Tales from the Territories covers Florida with Brian Blair, Steve Keirn, Bob Roop and Kevin Sullivan among those appearing.
Other ratings
Last Night’s Future Stars of Wrestling in Las Vegas: Sam Adonis b Remy Marcel, Danny Limelight won at five over Jordan Oasis, Brandon Gatson, Cut Throat Cody and Damian Drake, Gregory Sharpe b Jakob Austin Young to retain the Nevada title , Tom Lawlor & Danny Limelight b Funnybone & Bateman, Bad Dude Tito b Rhino (replacing Toa Liona), Viva Van b Dark Sheik, Hero Leu & Shogun James b Chris Masters & Carlito, Chris Bey won a three-way match against Hammerstone and Brian Cage to win the vacant Mecca Grand Championship. John Morrison came out after the match to challenge Bey for the title. (thanks to No Prima Donna)
BYB today announced Dada 5000 (Dhafir Harris), some of that infamous wreckage from a fight with Kimbo Slice in 2016 years ago, to fight on its 19/11 show. Believe it, the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation ended the fight citing that Dada was still suspended from that fight in Texas. Dada suffered two heart attacks during this fight and was blocked twice, as well as kidney failure. He, in theory, shouldn’t be able to fight in any state of commission.
Taya Valkyrie vs. Trish Adora for the women’s featherweight title has been added to the 10/30 MLW show in Philadelphia.
