vision questa new Disney+ original series centered around the vision of Paul Bettany, is officially in the works at Marvel Studios.

Following an initial report from industry insider Jeff Sneider, Deadline confirmed that a new Wanda Vision a Vision-focused spinoff is indeed in development, with a writers room set to open next week. According DeadlineMarvel Studios’ vision quest “will be about The Vision (Bettany) trying to regain his memory and his humanity.” Additionally, there’s a “possibility” that Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch will also make an appearance on the show, following her apparent (but unlikely) death in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Like the next Kathryn Hahn-led Wanda Vision spin off Agatha: Chaos Coven, vision quest will be supervised by Wanda Vision creator, writer and executive producer Jac Schaeffer. Whereas vision quest is in early development and currently does not have an official premiere window, Convent of Chaos (originally titled Agatha: House Harkness) is set to premiere in late 2023 or early 2024 as part of Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Marvel Studios’ vision quest not named after the 1985 sports film starring Matthew Modine and Linda Fiorentino, but rather the 1989 film west coast avengers “Vision Quest” story arc. In Marvel Comics history, Vision was dismantled, his artificial skin turned white, and he lost the ability to feel emotions, causing his romance with Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch to disintegrate. MCU fans have already seen a version of these events unfold in the latter part of Wanda Vision.

The Vision Returns to the MCU

Bettany’s version of Vision met its demise at the hands of Josh Brolin’s Thanos in the 2018 film Avengers: Infinity War. However, Bettany later reprized the role in the 2021 Disney+ series. Wanda Vision, in which Wanda and Vision began living an ostensibly happy, sitcom-worthy family life in the town of Westview. That said, it was eventually revealed that this life and this version of Vision were actually the fabrications of a grief-created “Hex” Wanda.

Meanwhile, the remnants of the true Vision were being experimented upon by SWORD – that is, the Sentient Weapons Observation and Response Division. Acting SWORD Director Tyler Hayward used Wanda’s powers to activate the Reconstructed Vision, whose memories had been erased, her skin and clothes having turned pale white (much like in west coast avengers‘ “Vision Quest” story arc).

In his quest to stop Wanda, White Vision was intercepted by Hex Vision, with the two engaging in combat before beginning a philosophical discussion of the “Ship of Theseus” paradox. Hex Vision eventually restored White Vision’s memories, with the latter departing to regions unknown to process the information granted to him. On that note, Deadline reports that the potential of Marvel Studios vision quest the spinoff is informally referred to as “Project White Vision” by those involved.

Notably, it wasn’t until last April that Bettany all but confirmed that he would be playing Vision again in the MCU. “[A]t the end of Wanda Visionyou see Vision fly away and it’s a free end,” he said. “And [Marvel Studios president] Kevin Feige is a man who doesn’t really allow details. So I guess at some point I’ll put on my tights and cape for another outing, but I don’t know when that might be.”
