Just months after the film debuted, Johnson announced he was stepping down from his role in the DC Universe as the studio sought to breathe new life into the DC story. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, black adam Star Noah Centineo addressed the ongoing changes in the DC Universe, particularly after Dwayne Johnson announced he was leaving the franchise.

“Honestly, I can’t even talk about it. I don’t really know what their plan is, and I can’t wait to see what they do with the DC world. For me, I’m really excited to see The Vision of Peter Safran and James Gunn for DC, those guys, they know what they’re doing. So we’re going to give it to him. I’m excited.
He also revealed how much fun he was having working on black adamnoting how it is never “enjoyed four months on set as [he] does” for this movie and remembering how friendly everyone has become with each other:
“We had such a great time making this movie. I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed four months on set the way I did while shooting this movie. There were so many of us, and we all blended in , and everyone was so willing to befriend each other, and we really became family, and that includes Dwayne as well.”
Centineo also made sure to give Johnson plenty of credit, looking back on the dinners and experiences they shared together and how much heart the film had thanks to its cast:
“He set the tone, and not just the cast, but everyone involved. We were constantly going to dinner parties and hanging out with each other, and I’ll carry that with me for the rest of my life, not to mention lessons and working with such iconic and deeply experienced and talented actors, our DP Lawrence Sher, our director [Jaume Collet-Serra], but for me it was the heart of this film that I will carry with me forever. And I’m so grateful to have been a part of it.”

Even with the negative reports surrounding the fallout from black adam, Noah Centineo chose to focus on the positive memories he had working on the film with Dwayne Johnson and crew. The way he talked so much about filming the film over four months at least shows how much the experience meant to him, seizing the chance to bring a new hero to life in Atom Smasher as he joined the Justice Society of America. .
While his role in black adam was a key support, he pointed out that he was unaware of what was going on with the new DC Universe under James Gunn and Peter Safran, especially with The Rock now irrelevant.
Outside of a rebooted Superman solo movie and stories centered around other big names in the Justice League, there’s no indication of which characters will become centerpieces in Gunn and Safran’s new DCU. And whether Johnson or Centineo return at a later date, their film will remain in conversations as the new story moves through development.
